About me:

I am a 23 year old brown woman of colour living with a lifelong disability. For the longest part of my life, I have lived under the triple structures of patriarchy, ableism and ageism in India. I live in Bombay, a melting pot where diverse cultures live next to each other. But what I have consistently observed is a world where folks with disabilities are unwelcome, forgotten, neglected, assumed, helped without explicit consent asking and infantilized. I am not talking about all people in the world, but I am talking about large populations and systems across India and other parts of the world, where the most marginalised and the largest minority in the world - folks with disabilities - are fighting for basic autonomy, freedom of expression and space πŸ’

Throughout my education years in India until college, there were no disability centred modules, activities, conversations and designing of spaces. So, my journey with expression and art began through reading fiction novels, Japanese manga and anime and comics from different authors across the globe. Eventually, I chose to take up the path of writing and begin writing, for me, about me and what this world means to me. I began with blogs on Speaking Tree (based in India) around nature, values, questions and my own hidden desire to be seen. I went on to publishing on WordPress, and eventually diving into the world of poetry and short stories 🌈

I completed my bachelor's degree from Bournemouth University in England in Communications and Media. I got my first exposure to accessibility, disabled vocabulary and disability rights through my time in the UK, ironic as that might be, considering its relationship with my country. My time in the UK was fundamental in my transformation from someone who was isolated and denied myself my truth to a powerful woman who owns her truth in her voice, work and existence. My calling is 'Intersectional disabled activism, questioning my world and simultaneously reimagining the kind of world that I can finally belong to' 🌊
