Charley Genever is an award-winning poet and critically-acclaimed producer. With over a decade of experience, she is a former Peterborough Poet Laureate and one of the leading voices in the Peterborough poetry scene. She has been published nationally in multiple anthologies and performed at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Cambridge Junction and Tate Britain. Her spoken word gig series ‘Freak Speak’ was rated as one of the UK's best Poetry & Spoken Word nights by Picador. She has worked with a variety of arts organisations across the country, including The Poetry Society, Apples and Snakes, Metal Culture, Art Pop Up, and The Mighty Creatives. Since May 2024 she has co-hosted the We, The Poets podcast alongside some of the country’s best literary talent.

In her personal practice, she often explores topics of censorship, intimacy, injustice, and vulnerability, through an LGBTQIA+ lens. In other words, she writes a lot of angry poems. Her work also explores unconventional methods of presentation - from a poetry suit to cut-up stop motion videos to collaboration with dancers. Her debut collection, 'Unsexed' was published in 2017 by BX3.

Her style has been compared to Kae Tempest, Joelle Taylor, and Hollie McNish, and once very cool kid called her “the Ronaldo of poetry.” She is known for her “raw, visceral, and unapologetic” performances (Yack Magazine), and is a self-described lava lamp head and flesh gallery.
