"Writing for me simply arose from an insane crush on words, and on the mechanism of language. When they told me that the alphabet only has twenty-six letters, I became suspicious because every night my mother read to me Annie MG Schmidt and Dahl and those sentences just kept coming dizzyingly different one from another, so twenty-six letters, that had to be one of those many things they try to tell you as a kid. The alphabet, such an almost ridiculously scant instrument that offers incredible combination possibilities. That challenges me every day. I totally fell for that.”
